April 21, Day 2: Mile 11.4-26.0
Miles hiked 14.6
Gratitude of the Day: I’m thankful for early morning starts, cloud covered skies and a cool breeze, as well as a 5 mile downhill to start the day.
Woke up early, 6am, had all my camp tore down and pack on to start the day at 6:30. Legs and attitude were so much better, to was cool, a nice marine layer hung over the hill blocking the morning sun. Hiked down into Hauser Canyon under shade, took my first PCT poop there... memorable!
Hiked up out of Hauser Canyon with intermittent sun rays but mostly the clouds hung on and crested over the top to see Lake Morena in the distance. The thought of my first trail beer and a break in the afternoon got me down the hill.
Sat at Lake Morena Campground with several other hikers for several hours and then at 3pm decided to hike another 2.5 miles to a campsite out of town.
Felt so good I hiked 5.7 miles to Boulder Oaks Campground, making my total mileage for the day 14.6. Legs are doing well, I’ve developed three blisters that I’m tending to and so far the knees are doing well. Ended the night with two other hikers, Mike and Shred It (Brian). Got cold quick so we were all in our tents by 7pm.
