Day 3: slow, slog

April 22, Day 3: Mile 26.0-41.5

Miles hiked: 15.5

Gratitude of the Day: I’m thankful for my parents. They love me unconditionally, support this crazy endeavor I’m undertaking. No matter what happens in my life or where it takes me they are always the biggest “cheerleaders” in my corner.

Today started off with the sound of a light drizzle on my tent. Couldn’t sleep anymore so decided to start packing up and see what the next part of the trail had in store for me. It was a day of varieties.

Started off with a light drizzle and cloud cover, changed to a windy breeze and ended the day above the marine layer in full sun.  Made for a fun day of start and stopping to switch out clothes because I was either too hot or too cold. Climbed 3000 feet and hiked 15.5 miles, not bad for day three. My feet are sore and I’m tending to my blisters, which is new for me as I’ve never had to deal with blisters before.  Took a lunch break under some manzanita trees in the shade to escape the sun.

Got into Mt Laguna in just enough time to set my tent up and make a quick walk down to the General store to grab a Gatorade, a couple snickers and beer. So far I’ve named two hikers, one I coined him Heisenburg and the other Trailrita (he was wanting a margarita on trail)... stipulation for his trail name to stick... he has to carry out margaritas and tacos on Cinco de Mayo... or if in town he has to order it.
