May 9, Day 20: ZERO DAY Big Bear Lake

Gratitude of the Day: I found out today from my ex-wife that Aunt Laurie died. She wasn’t my aunt, but she was my aunt. She was an amazing woman in my eyes, loving and forgiving. She had an infectious laugh and a hug that leaves an imprint. The last time I saw Aunt Laurie it was fairly soon after the end of my divorce. She wrapped me in one of those hugs, we cried and she told me she loved me. She reassured me that life happens, basically reassuring me that there was no bad feelings, it was the best gift she could have given me during that hard time. This was my last memory of Aunt Laurie. By the time they found the cancer, in two weeks she was gone; small blessing for not having suffered long. Today, Mother’s Day, I’m thankful for my loved ones and for hugs that leave a lasting impression. RIP Aunt Laurie, love you and sad to never be embraced by one of those hugs.
Today was resupply day and chores in the town of Big Bear. Back to trail tomorrow.
