Day 28: A casual walk

May 17, day 28: mile 430.4-444.3

Miles Hiked: 13.9

Gratitude of the Day: I’m thankful for my friends Erica and Kristie, we call ourselves the Three Amigos. If there’s type 2 fun to be had both of these ladies are in. They’re my mountaineering buddies and I love that they also like to eat and drink during these adventures. I’m looking forward to future summits and traveling excursions with them after I’m done with the trail.

Knowing that I would be heading to the Acton KOA today and it was just 14 miles, I slept in until 6:30am and slowly packed up not in any big hurry. I took my time to hike this morning and it was a nice relief too know that a 20+ mile day wasn’t happening. At the first little spring I came to I took a break and even made some hot chocolate to go with my pop tart for breakfast. Then another 4 miles from there I stopped at the North Fork Ranger Station where the caregiver puts out a cooler of soda and chips for the hikers, I sat there for 30 minutes enjoying an ice cold Coca Cola and sitting in the shade. Then it was an 8 miles of highway exposed rolling trail to the road that leads to the Acton KOA where I’d sleep in a real bed for the first time in weeks and take a zero day the following day. The rest of the day was spent drinking beer, eating pizza and hanging out with a ton of hikers laughing and having fun.
