Day 30: Breakfast and rejoining the crew

May 19, Day 30: 444.3-458.6

Miles Hiked: 14.3

Gratitude of the Day: I’m thankful for friends that make you feel like you’re 13 again and their wife that puts up with our shenanigans, Collin and Lexie Jackson. I swear when Collin and I get together we revert to children and it’s the absolutely most fun thing ever; playing video games, darts or pool and acting like we have no responsibilities. Lexie is the sweetest and “allows” this to happen.

Well I escaped the vortex of the Acton KOA and only stayed for my intended amount of time. I got up early, took one last shower before hitting the hot dusty trail at 6:30 am. With a pack loaded down with fresh resupplies of food, and man does it always feel heavy when I leave towns. This morning was an exposed climb and at 7:30 it was already feeling warm and I had sweat running down my face. After doing come calculations with Clancy yesterday, we calculated that we’ll be in Kennedy Meadows in 12 days!  Out of the desert and into the Sierra’s. That seems so crazy to me, I wasn’t expecting to get to Kennedy Meadows until mid-June and here I’m on track to get there before the end of May.  So with that being the case, I don’t plan on pushing big miles except for one section coming up and that’s the infamous LA aqueduct section of the PCT that passes thru part of the Mojave desert. That’ll be a night hike to avoid the hot sun and probably a high 20s or even a 30 mile day.

At 11:30 I walked into the town of Agua Dolce and am eating lunch at Homemade Restaurant. Once again I’m craving ice cold Coca Cola… it seems to be my trail craving. On the breakfast menu for me today, a large breakfast burrito.

Vasquez Rocks- Aka Star Trek rocks

Next in town was Clancy. So I met him at the local Mexican restaurant while he ate I had a beer. Next in was the rest of the crew so I just stayed until they ate and we all walked out of Agua Dolce four miles to a large camp spot for the night.
