Day 23: Hot Springs to Hot Day

May 12, Day 23: Mile 307.9-330.1

Miles Hiked: 22.2

Gratitude of the Day: I’m thankful for my three “work” wives, although we don’t work together anymore… but they are the best a guy could ask for. These three women, Sharla, Lacey and Crystal never stop making me laugh, put a smile on my face all the time and I know every single one of them would show up to help bury a body (joking… but really, they would). These three have always had my back and I’m “one of the girls” when it comes to outings, usually being the lone male voice to answer what would seem to normal people very specific and uncomfortable questions, but I love it and I love them for including me in their world.

Woke up at the hot springs half tempted to just stay and play in the water and soak in the hot springs, but the trail calls. Was packed up and walking down the trail at 6am.  The trail grim the springs was pretty chill and a nice dirt path. Before I knew it I was sitting at the water source 10 miles in at 10 am eating a snack and enjoying some cold water.  I caught up with another hiker called Hiccups, who did the AT a couple years ago and yes she gets a lot of hiccups, hence the name. We hiked another 8.5 miles to a lake called Silverwood Lake arriving at 2:30 to the shade of a pavilion and a nice cool dip in the lake to get the salt off.

After an hour of relaxing under cover from the sun? Back out on trail we’d like the remainder of the lake and take a detour down to the day use area to get water for the next day. Then another 2 miles down trail for camp. Tomorrow it’s 11 miles to the famous shortly off trail McDonald’s. Not usually the best cuisine, but a McDonald’s right off trail 340 miles into a thru hike is golden arch heaven.

Meet: Allen, trail name is Clancy but we’re all wanting a change since Allen named himself after one of the artist in the band 21 Pilots, his favorite band. Dunkaroo and I believe he should change the name to Jukebox, he’s always singing and carrying on some tune. Allen is a cyber security specialist that lives in Seattle, WA. The PCT is is first backpacking trip and he’s nailing it. He always puts a smile on everyone’s face and he’s such a happy person.
