Day 134: Thank you Dugan and Mt Rainier NP

August 31, Day 134: 2308.3-2335.2

Miles Hiked: 26.9

Gratitude of the Day: I’m thankful for Dugan “Baewatch” McClellan. I’ve hiked around him for thousands of miles and today I said goodbye to him as he goes ahead of the group to tag the Canadian border.

Last night was cold but at 12 or 1 in the night the Elk was bugeling which was cool to hear. When my alarm went off at 5 I hit snooze twice before finally getting up. I packed my bag inside and hiked out of camp with my layers on at 6am. It was nice to walk in the chill of the morning and I kicked up two elk as I climbed the first of several hills today. Most of the day everything was socked in with clouds and the views were only peekaboo views. There still were beautiful meadows and lakes to enjoy while I walked past Chinook Pass and Crystal Mountain Ski Resort.  I made it to camp and it was so cold, so I set everything up and even made dinner outside my vestibule while laying in my quilt. It even slightly snowed while I finished my dinner, snow in August.  I hope this isn’t the sign to come.
