Day 138: Thank You Jake and Kendall Catwalk

September 4, Day 138: 2394.1-2401.3

Miles Hiked: 7.2

Gratitude of the Day: I’m thankful for Jake “Clyde” Lemerand. I met Clyde on day one and my PCT hike has been so much better for having this wonderful man along for the journey.  He’s always making everyone laugh and just makes the time so much better.

It was so nice to sleep in a bed and to have a room all to myself last night. I woke up this morning at 6:30 and it was a big “nope!” I’m not getting up. So I crawled back under the covers and slept until 9:30am. It was great!  Then I took another hot bath and slowly packed up my things. Breakfast was with the several of the group at the restaurant attached to the hotel and soon we were all giving Huck and Pony Boy hugs goodbye as they need to finish the trail by the 15th because of prior plans. It wasn’t too tearful for people because we all know we’ll see them in two weeks when we finish the trail at Pony Boys dads house for the post-PCT get together. After buying last minute snacks I left Snoqualmie around noon with just the intention of getting the climb out the way.

It was a 7 mile 3000 foot climb that had spectacular views and even got to walk a fairly popular day hike called the Kendall Catwalk and I passed the 2400 mile marker.  Camp tonight is on a ridge between two lakes, there’s a ton of weekend warrior backpackers here making all kinds of noise but being that it’s Labor Day weekend it’s not too surprising. This is supposed to be a beautiful stretch of the trail between Snoqualmie and Stevens Pass which will take me in the Bavarian town of Leavenworth by Tuesday. The miles aren’t too bad but the elevation does get steeper. Hopefully the ailments keep holding at bay for this last stretch of trail to the border.
