July 30, Day 102: 1599.7-1613.7
Miles Hiked: 14
Gratitude of the Day: I’m thankful for the rain and how it brings the smell of the forest out.
Back to trail and to finish up the state of California, after a quick breakfast and some coffee it was a easy hitch back to trail from a local in Etna. The next several days the group has decided to back off the miles as a couple people are nursing injuries. The plan is to get to the town of Ashland by August 4th and take a zero there before pushing on to the town of Bend. Today started out warm back on trail and about 3.2 miles in I crested a ridge line and in the next valley over you could see the beginning of a fire. One of the other hikers had already called it in to the Cal Fire and they were aware. The trail actually veered away from it and went north so that was a good thing. Then the thunder clouds started to roll in and soon enough it was sprinkling. The thunder and lightning was a little unnerving, especially on the ridge lines. After 14 miles the group decided to stop at Fischer Lake, a lake that reminds me a lot of the PNW as I set in my tent and listen to the pattering of rain on my tent.
