Day 111: 1800 miles

August 8th, Day 111: 1773.6-1804.4

Miles Hiked: 30.8

Gratitude of the Day: I’m thankful for trail side naps.

Another early morning, except I didn’t want to get up early this morning. I hit my snooze but then thought better of it and woke up and started packing. I got out of camp this morning at 4:45 with intentions of hiking 35 miles today. A tall order considering yesterday, but it thought I’d give it a try. The legs were super sluggish as I started the climb out of camp. By the time I was 7.5 miles in I was basically sleep walking down the trail, I could barely keep my eyes open. So at 8:15am I stopped, set up my hammock pulled out my sleeping bag and crawled in for a nap. I got up at 9:15 and I felt much more rested and refreshed, but an hour of hiking was gone. The legs felt way better after the nap and I cruised to the next water source. Took a small break there and ate and then pushed on.  I took several breaks throughout the rest of the morning and afternoon. At 3pm I reached a small lake just off trail and decided to eat more and take another break before pushing on, I’d covered 23 miles and my body definitely let me know that.  But I have hopes to met Ali, Goldie and Tim at Crater lake tomorrow so that means I need to suck it up and cover some miles. Off down the trail I went and it took everything to just keep a 2.5 mph pace. Finally I reached an acceptable mileage distance, it’s not 35 but it’s over 30 and leaves a doable 17 miles into Crater Lake tomorrow morning. Also, I stopped a little early so I could get to bed earlier and get more sleep.
