Day 74: Tahoe

July 2, Day 74: 1082.1-1090.8

Miles Hiked: 8.7

Gratitude of the Day: I’m thankful for spontaneous people who are up for fun adventures and being weird.

Today was a nice chill hike to get into South Lake Tahoe. Huck, Catch and I left Showers Lake at 6am and did the 9 miles to highway 50 by 9am. We used my ground sheet that I’ve also written on the hitch hike into town, Huck and I held the sign and less than 10 minutes later a wonderful woman named Jody had stopped and gave us a ride into town. We couldn’t check into our hostel yet, so we asked her to drop us off at a place for brunch… she dropped us off at the Edgewood Country Club that was prepping to hold a PGA celebrity tournament this week.

We definitely stood out, but no matter. We went to the bar, ordered breakfast and bloody Mary’s and enjoyed ourselves. The bartender was super nice and when we asked how many thru hikers he’s ever served… zero, we were the first. After breakfast we went out on the lawn and played ping pong and then rounded up some hotel guests and we played wiffle ball homerun derby… I won again.  Then Jody, the woman that gave us a hitch to the country club came back and drove us to the post office and then to our hostel. We dropped our bags in the common room because our rooms weren’t ready, and low and behold Knee Deep, Motorcycle Momma and Bang were there too. It was nice to catch up with them. We spent the rest of the day eating and drinking and having fun. We went to goodwill and we each picked out someone else’s outfit to wear that night out to the casino. I picked out Huck’s, Catch picked mine and Huck picked Catch’s. It was super fun and we stayed out late playing corn hole at the brewery then went to the casino for dinner and to lose a little money.  By 12am it was time to head back to the hostel, it’s amazing how over stimulating a big crowd can be after being in the woods for so long.
