Day 85: Massive Views

July 13, Day 85: 1249.7-1280.2

Miles Hiked: 30.5

Gratitude of the Day:  I’m thankful for cool evenings that smell of forest and pines.

Today was such a long uphill and quite the blur. I left the Feather River at 5:30am, I wasn’t motivated to crawl out of my tent but knew I needed to get going as it was a 8 mile climb out of the canyon. Slow and steady wins the race and by 10:15 I was at the top. Then it was a little flat until it wasn’t again and we climbed some more. Luckily most of the day was spent in the shade. I hiked with Stretch and Sway and we leap frogged back and forth with each other, usually meeting at the water sources. The day ended up being a long hiking day, I didn’t get to camp until 8:20pm. I’m camped on a beautiful ridge tonight and the wind has kicked up, tonight I’ll probably actually have to sleep under my quilt. Tomorrow morning is a horrendous downhill into the town of Belden and then a 12 mile climb right back up.
